Kazimierz Kazimierz

the Jewish Past, Bohemian Present

Before 1939 there were 3 millions Jews in the heart of Europe. Their world can now be seen only in the photos which were saved from the fires of the Second World War. But in Kraków’s Kazimierz, the former Jewish quarter, you can still find the spirit of the past days. Szeroka street with its famous synagogues, cemetery and kosher restaurants, Ciemna street still with its amazing atmosphere of medieval town, the market square with all possible things to buy – here the pre-war world seems to be preserved. Because of this unique climate, today’s Kazimierz is one of the most popular spots in Poland– famous for its meeting places and art galleries, where artists and students discuss from dusk till dawn. We would like to show you the old Kazimierz, telling you about its history and the present live.
